From its beginnings in 1892 through the mid-twentieth century, the neighborhood of Hampton Heights in the center of Spartanburg produced some of the city's outstanding leaders in the professions, the arts, and business.  In the 1960s and 1970s middle-class flight to new suburbs took its toll on Spartanburg's city center, including Hampton Heights, but the lovely houses attracted new generations of residents, and the neighborhood is again flourishing, its resurgence fueling the renaissance of the downtown business district.  This book chronicles and celebrates that exciting journey from Hampton Heights' origins in the 1870s and 1880s through the first decade of the twenty-first century.
