SPECIAL EVENT: "Omar ibn Sayyid"

Omar ibn Sayyid, a writer and Islamic scholar from Senegal, was enslaved and brought to the United States in 1807. While enslaved, Omar continued to write and correspond. The Spartanburg Regional History Museum has a letter written by Omar in their collection.  The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History utilized this letter in their research for a book on Omar ibn Sayyid.  Researcher, Ayla Amon will present her findings in this special trip to Spartanburg.

Hosted by the Spartanburg County Historical Association in cooperation with The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History. 

This event will be held in the "Green Room" at the Chapman Cultural Center located at 200 East St. John Street, Spartanburg.
