Lunch & Learn: Spartanburg's Courthouses

  • Chapman Cultural Center 200 East Saint John Street Spartanburg, SC, 29306 United States (map)

Brad Steinecke with the Spartanburg County Public Libraries will present a history of Spartanburg County’s courthouses, from the first hewn-timber courthouse of 1789 to the 1958 modernist facility currently in use. Based off of a recent exhibit at the downtown library, this presentation will include an overview of the architects, stylistic choices, cornerstone laying ceremonies, and growing pains of each structure. From purely utilitarian to dramatic and visionary, Spartanburg’s courthouses set the precedent for our next courthouse, currently in the design stages and expected to be unveiled in the months to come.
